Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced (2.20.24)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy took home three Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Weekly Awards when the winners were announced on Tuesday. Boston University logged two award winners, while American notched one.  

Boston University sophomore Freddy Collins earned Patriot League Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors following a sub-four-minute race in the mile. Collins notched a time of 3:59.59, currently ranks 91st in NCAA Division I. Navy senior Ellie Abraham took home the Patriot League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award after setting a school record in the 1,000m. Her winning time of 2:47.51 places her second in the Patriot League this season.

Joshua Boamah collected his seventh Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week award of the season after winning the shot put with a mark of 18.08m (59’ 4”) and the weight throw with a mark of 20.14m (66’ 1”). Boston University sophomore Ellie Roan garnered her first Patriot League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week award after a strong performance in the weight throw. Her mark of 19.68m (64’ 7”) leads the Patriot League and places her 58th in NCAA Division I. 

American freshman Mathias Deldicque earned Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week honors after his 800m time of 1:52.63. After adjustments for track size, his time of 1:51.05 is fourth in the League and top among freshmen runners. Navy’s Sophia Richter won her second Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week award after logging a 24.77 second time in the 200m. She leads all Leage freshmen in the event and ranks fifth overall. 

Army West Point’s Brian McSweeney, Boston University’s Shamiso Sikaneta, Loyola-Maryland's Lauryn Clarke and Navy’s Sami Bollinger and Sam Keeny earned honorable mention nods for their respective performances this week. 

Patriot League Men’s Track Athlete of the Week 
Freddy Collins, Boston University, So., Distance, Stow, Mass./Nashoba Regional 
*Collins logged a 3:59.59 time in the mile. 
*He is the third Terrier to post a sub-four-minute mile this season, and currently ranks 91st in NCAA Division I. 

Patriot League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week 
Ellie Abraham, Navy, Sr. Distance, Brookings, S.D./Brookings 
*Abraham set the Naval Academy record in the 1,000m with a time of 2:47.51. 
*Her mark currently ranks second in the Patriot League. 

Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week 
Joshua Boamah, Navy, Sr., Throws, San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch 
*Boamah recorded two wins on the weekend in the shot put (18.08m / 59’ 4”) and weight throw (20.14m / 66’ 1”). 
*This is Boamah’s seventh field athlete of the week award this season.  

Patriot League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week 
Ellie Roan, Boston University, So., Throws, Sebastopol, Calif./West County 
*Roan set the school record in the weight throw with a toss of 19.68m (64’ 7”). 
*Her mark currently ranks 58th across NCAA Division I and leads the Patriot League.  

Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week 
Mathias Deldicque, American, Fr., Mid-Distance, Barcelona, Spain/Benjamin Franklin International 
*Deldicque placed second with a time of 1:52.63 in the 800m. 
*His converted mark for track size of 1:51.05 leads all League freshmen and ranks fourth overall.

Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week 
Sophia Richter, Navy, Fr., Sprints/Hurdles, Louisville, Ky./Eastern 
*Richter placed second in the 200m with a time of 24.77.  
*Her mark is the best by a freshman in the Patriot League this season and is fifth overall.  
*This is Richter’s second women’s rookie of the week award.  

 
Honorable Mention 
Brian McSweeney, Army West Point, Jr., Pole Vault, East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick 
*McSweeney posted a mark of 5.05m (16’ 6.75”) in the pole vault. 
*His mark ranks second in the Patriot League.   

Shamiso Sikaneta, Boston University, Fr. Distance, Toronto, Ontario/Northern Secondary    
*Sikaneta logged a 1:52.36 to place seventh in the 800m.  

Lauryn Clarke, Loyola-Maryland, So., Damascus, Md./Damascus 
*Clarke won the 60m with a time of 7.68. 
*She also logged a 24.88 second time in the 200m enroute to a third-place finish. 

Sami Bollinger, Navy, Jr., Jumps, Temecula, Calif./Great Oak 
*Bollinger set the school record in the triple jump with a mark of 12.49m (40’ 11.75”). 
*She currently ranks 80th nationally and second in the Patriot League. 

Sam Keeny, Navy, Sr., Distance, Annapolis, Md./South River  
*Keeny placed second in the 1,000m with a time of 2:23.41. 
*His mark leads the Patriot League and is the third-fastest in Navy history.

PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS  
The 2023-24 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship will take place beginning Saturday, Feb. 24, and concluding on Sunday, Feb. 25. at Boston University’s Track & Tennis Center. All nine men’s programs and each of the 10 women’s teams will compete.
