Bucknell’s Williams and Dörries sweep first set of weekly honors of the season for the Bison

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell sophomore guard Jayden Williams was named Patriot League Men’s Basketball PenFed Credit Union Player of the Week when the League office announced the first set of weekly honors of the 2025-26 season on Monday. Bison freshman Amon Dörries claimed rookie of the week honors.
 
Williams claimed his first Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award after averaging 12.5 points, 5.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds in the Bison’s wins over Delaware (78-70) and Mount St. Mary’s (73-62).   
 
Dörries collected Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week after averaging 17.5 points on 63 percent (15-of-24) shooting in the Bison’s wins over the Blue Hens and Mountaineers.   
 
Army West Point sophomore guard Kevin McCarthy, Boston University sophomore forward Ben Defty, Colgate junior forward Sam Wright, Holy Cross sophomore guard Tyler Boston and Lafayette sophomore guard Caleb Williams earned honorable mentions for their performances during the opening week of the season.
 
The Patriot League men’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s men’s basketball athletics communications contacts, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.?

*Williams averaged 12.5 points, 5.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds in Bucknell’s victories over Delaware (78-70) and Mount St. Mary’s (73-62). He connected on 5-of-9 attempts from beyond the arc and only made two turnovers in 67 minutes.
*The sophomore point guard posted career-highs of 13 points, six assists and four rebounds in the Bison’s season-opening victory over the Blue Hens.
*He finished with 12 points, six boards and five assists in Bucknell’s 73-62 win at Mount St. Mary’s.

*Dörries averaged 17.5 points on 63 percent shooting (15-of-24) from the floor and 4.0 rebounds in Bucknell’s wins against Delaware (78-70) and Mount St. Mary’s (73-62).
*He scored 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor in Bucknell’s season-opening victory over the Blue Hens in his collegiate debut.
*The freshman center scored 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting in a win over the reigning MAAC champion Mount St. Mary’s.

*McCarthy averaged 16.0 points to help Army West Point go 1-1 during the opening week of the season. He scored a career-high 18 points and added three steals in a season-opening win against SUNY Maritime.
 
Ben Defty, Boston University, So., F, Berlin, Germany/St. Thomas More (Conn.)
*Defty scored a career-high 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor to lead Boston University to a 76-75 overtime win over Northeastern. He also added career-highs of eight rebounds, five blocks and three steals against the Huskies.
 
Sam Wright, Colgate, Jr., F, Hoover, Ala./Spain Park
*Wright averaged 16.5 points on 59.1 percent (13-of-22) shooting from the floor in Colgate’s losses against Michigan State and Northeastern. He scored 17 points in the season opener against the Spartans before finishing with 16 points and seven boards against the Huskies.
 
Tyler Boston, Holy Cross, So., G, Severn, Md./Bullis
*Boston averaged 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals in losses against Providence and No. 8 BYU. He scored a career-high 25 points, hitting 10-of-11 from the charity stripe, and dished out six assists against the Friars.
 
Caleb Williams, Lafayette, So., G, Jacksonville, Fla./Jean Ribault
*Williams averaged 17.0 points on 41 percent (9-of-22) shooting from 3-point range in three games last week to lead the Leopards. He scored a season-high 20 points against Texas, shooting 6-of-10 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from deep.
