BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy senior guard Austin Benigni was named Patriot League Men’s Basketball PenFed Credit Union Player of the Week when the League office announced weekly honors on Monday. American freshman guard Madden Collins earned rookie of the week honors.
Benigni claimed Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the first time this season after averaging 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists to help the Mids go 2-0 last week. The Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year posted 25 points, seven boards and five assists in a 61-56 win over Air Force on Sunday.
Collins captured his first Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week, averaging 14.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in victories against Drexel (75-73) and UMES (78-60). The freshman guard came off the bench to score a team-high 19 points in the Eagles’ comeback win over the Dragons on Wednesday.
American junior guard Matt Mayock, Boston University junior guard Michael McNair, Holy Cross junior guard/forward Gabe Warren, Lafayette sophomore guard Caleb Williams and Lehigh junior guard Nasir Whitlock earned honorable mentions for their performances last week.
The Patriot League men’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s men’s basketball athletics communications contacts, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

*McNair posted 19.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg, shooting 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from the field and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from deep. He scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed eight boards in an 88-82 overtime loss against New Hampshire.
Gabe Warren, Holy Cross, Jr., G/F, Plano, Texas/John Paul II
*Warren posted 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 1.5 assists and 1.0 block per game to help the Crusaders go 2-0 last week with wins over Northeastern (76-59) and Fordham (70-69). He scored a career-high 25 points, hitting 6-of-7 from beyond the arc, and grabbed eight rebounds in a 16-point comeback win over the Rams on Saturday.

*Williams scored 23 points, connecting on 6-of-9 shots from 3-point range, to go with four assists and two boards in the Leopards’ 79-71 win over Mercyhurst on Friday.

*Whitlock averaged 21.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals in two games. He finished with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists in an 80-71 loss against Binghamton. He scored 22 points, shooting 9-of-9 from the charity stripe in an 87-82 loss against LIU.
