Patriot League Announces 2025 Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athletes and Academic All-League Teams

Sjöberg Earns Second Consecutive Scholar-Athlete Honor

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Boston University Terriers men’s and women’s programs took home both Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards in Indoor Track and Field when the results were announced on Wednesday. Junior Vera Sjöberg took home the women’s award, while graduate student Foster Malleck earned the honor on the men’s side. Meanwhile, 37 student-athletes were awarded Academic All-Patriot League honors, with 18 honorees for the men and 19 for the women due to ties in the voting.  
 
Sjöberg led all scorers at the 2024-25 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship and garnered 30 points after sweeping the mile, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters races. She repeated as a League champion in the distance races for the second consecutive season and earned Patriot League Women’s Indoor Track and Field Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet honors for her efforts. She also established a League record in the mile with a time of 4:40.14. The English major carries a 3.97 cumulative GPA.

Malleck, a First Team All-Patriot League runner, claimed gold in the mile and 3,000-meter race. His mile time of 3:58.11 established a meet record at the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships and was his second straight gold in the event. He carries a cumulative 3.93 GPA while pursuing an M.S. Project Management degree at BU.
 
Sjöberg and Malleck were also selected for their respective Academic All-Patriot League squads.   
 
Women’s Academic All-League Breakdown
Army West Point logged five Academic All-League members on the women’s team, with Boston University trailing closely with four honorees. Colgate, Holy Cross and Lafayette garnered two honorees apiece, while American, Bucknell, Lehigh and Loyola logged one representative.
 
Boston University’s Sjöberg, Lafayette’s Alexa LaSasso (Chemical Engineering | 3.87 GPA) and Lehigh’s Laura Reigle (Design | 3.85 GPA) are each appearing on the Academic All- League team for the second time in their respective careers. The remaining 16 honorees earned Academic All-League for the first time.
 
Men’s Academic All-League Breakdown
Army West Point led all men’s institutions with four representatives on the 18-member Academic All-League team, while Boston University and Bucknell came in second with three members. Colgate and Navy each earned two honorees, while Holy Cross, Lafayette and Lehigh each had one student-athlete represented.
 
Boston University’s Freddy Collins (Mechanical Engineering | 3.74 GPA) and Malleck, alongside Bucknell’s Wade Shomper (International Relations & Economics | 3.77 GPA) earned their second career Academic All-League nod. The remaining 15 honorees earned Academic All-League for the first time.

*Malleck earned First Team All-Patriot League honors by winning gold at the Patriot League Championship in the mile and 3,000m.
*His mile time of 3:58.11 established a Patriot League Indoor Track and Field record.  
*Malleck carries a 3.93 GPA while pursuing his M.S. in Project Management.

Voting for the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Men’s and Women’s Scholar-Athletes of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League Teams are conducted by the League men’s and women’s indoor track and field sports information directors.
 
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in their sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
