Patriot League Announces Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week (4.22.25)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University earned three weekly awards accolades when the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Weekly awards were announced on Tuesday. Army West Point garnered two awards, while Holy Cross claimed the final honor.
 
Army West Point junior Nathan Davis was named Patriot League Outdoor Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after establishing a program record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. His mark of 8:41.63 leads the Patriot League and ranks 35th in NCAA DI. Boston University junior Vera Sjöberg earned Patriot League Outdoor Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after logging a 1,500-meter time of 4:09.24 at the Wake Forest Invite. The mark leads the Patriot League and ranks 12th in NCAA DI.
 
Javan Guevara-Cragwell was named Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after logging season-best marks in the long jump (7.46m | 24’ 5.75”) and triple jump (15.34m | 50” 4’) at the Virgina Challenge. The Army West Point senior leads the Patriot League in the triple jump and ranks second in the long jump. Boston University’s Peace Omonzane was named Patriot League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning the long jump (6.19m | 20’ 3.75”) and placing second in the triple jump (12.20m | 40’ 0.5”) at the Jim Kavanagh Legacy Invitational.
 
Boston University’s Guy Margalit earned Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Rookies of the Week honors following a victory in the triple jump with a mark of 15.14m (49’ 8.25”). His mark is second in the Patriot League and ranks 85th in NCAA DI. Holy Cross freshman Abby Desmarais earned Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week after she earned an individual victory in the 100m with a time of 11.85 seconds. She leads all League freshmen in the event.
 
Army West Point’s Louisa Diamond and Sophia Dykstra, Bucknell’s Alex Lea, Holy Cross’ Haley Murphy, Lehigh’s Jaden Ferguson, Loyola Maryland’s Lauryn Clarke and Navy’s Nick Simmons garnered honorable mention nods this week.
 
Patriot League Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Nathan Davis, Army West Point, Jr., Distance, East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia
*Davis established a program record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a mark of 8:41.63.
*The time leads the Patriot League and ranks 35th in NCAA DI.
 
Patriot League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Vera Sjöberg, Boston University, Jr., Distance, Stockholm, Sweden/Rudbeck
*Sjöberg logged a 1,500m time of 4:09.24 at the Wake Forst Invite.
*The time broke a BU school record and leads the Patriot League this season.
*Her mark ranks 12th in NCAA DI.  
 
Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Javan Guevara-Cragwell, Army West Point, Sr., Jumps, Derby, Conn./Derby
*Guevara-Cragwell set two season-best marks in the long jump (7.46m | 24’ 5.75”) and triple jump (15.34m | 50” 4’) at the Virginia Challenge.
*He leads the Patriot League in the triple jump, while holding second in the League in the long jump.
*His long jump mark ranks 76th in NCAA DI, while the triple jump mark ranks 56th.
 
Patriot League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Peace Omonzane, Boston University, Jr., Jumps, Brampton, Ontario/St. Edmund Campion Catholic  
*Omonzane won the long jump (6.19m | 20’ 3.75”) and placed second in the triple jump (12.20m | 40’ 0.5”) at the Jim Kavanagh Legacy Invitational.
 
Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week
Guy Margalit, Boston University, Fr., Jumps, Kohav Yair, Israel/Beit Chinuch Yarkon
*Margalit won the triple jump at the Jim Kavanagh Legacy Invitational with a mark of 15.14m (49’ 8.25”).
*The mark is second in the League this season and ranks 85th in NCAA DI.

Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week
Abby Desmarais, Holy Cross, Fr., Sprints, Framingham, Mass./Framingham
*Desmarais earned an individual victory in the 100m with a time of 11.85 seconds.
*The mark ranks third in the League this season and leads all freshmen in the event.
*She also participated in the Holy Cross 4x400-meter relay that won gold.
 
Honorable Mention
Louisa Diamond, Army West Point, So., Distance, Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy
*Diamond ran 33:35.67 in the 10,000m at the Wake Forest Invite.
*The mark broke a 37-year-old Army record and she now owns the best mark the Patriot League in 2025.
*Her mark ranks 56th in NCAA DI.
 
Sophia Dykstra, Army West Point, Sr., Throws, Oskaloosa, Iowa/Oskaloosa
*Dykstra logged a mark of 51.64m (169’ 5”) in the discus at the Virginia Challenge.
*The mark leads the Patriot League and ranks 75th in NCAA DI.
 
Alex Lea, Bucknell, Fr., Sprints, Center Valley, Pa./ Southern Lehigh
*Lea won the 200m with a time of 24.42, while also logging a win in the 400m in 55.86.
 
Jaden Ferguson, Lehigh, Fr., Throws, Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley
*Ferguson won the open high jump at the Virginia Challenge with a mark of 2.06m (6’ 9”). His mark ranks 97th in NCAA DI.
 
Lauryn Clarke, Loyola Maryland, Jr., Sprints, Damascus, Md./Damascus
*Clarke won the 100m (11.94) and 200m (24.51) at the Loyola-Hopkins Invitational.
 
Haley Murphy, Holy Cross, Sr., Sprints/Hurdles, Danvers, Mass./Danvers
*Murphy broke the Holy Cross record in the 400-meter with a mark of 55.14.
*She was also a member of the winning 4x400-meter relay teams.
 
Nick Simmons, Navy, So., Multis, Portsmouth, Va./Manor
*Simmons won the decathlon with a total of 7,066 points.
*His mark ranks 48th in NCAA DI.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2024-25 Patriot League Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Worchester, Mass. at the College of the Holy Cross. Events at Hart Track begin Friday, May 2, and conclude on Saturday, May 3. All nine men's programs and each of the 10 women's teams will compete.
