Patriot League Baseball Players of the Week Announced (3.30.26)

Bucknell’s Lagoni and Mitchell, Lafayette’s Dobil receive weekly honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell junior shortstop Ty Lagoni and sophomore right-handed pitcher Bryce Mitchell earned Patriot League Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, while Lafayette freshman infielder Will Dobil was named Rookie of the Week on Monday.
 
Bucknell’s Lagoni collected Patriot League Baseball Player of the Week honors, batting .333 (7-for-21) with eight RBIs and six runs to help the Bison go 5-0 last week, including a three-game sweep over Lehigh.  
 
The Bison’s Mitchell earned his first Patriot League Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor. He went 2-0 in three appearances, allowing two earned runs on two hits over 8.0 innings.

Lafayette’s Dobil took home Patriot League Baseball Rookie of the Week for the first time, batting .600 (9-for-15) with five RBIs and five runs scored to help the Leopards sweep a three-game series against Holy Cross.
 
Army West Point senior RHP Trey Ates, Holy Cross senior OF CJ Egrie, Lafayette junior RHP Tristan Helmick and Lehigh senior catcher Owen Walewander received honorable mentions for their performances last week.

*Lagoni batted .333 (7-for-21), and slugged .476 while driving in eight runs and scoring two to help Bucknell go 5-0 last week, including a three-game sweep over Lehigh.
*The junior shortstop went 2-for-6 with a triple and four RBIs in Sunday’s 12-11 win.
*He batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs in Saturday’s 6-3 win over the Mountain Hawks.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Bryce Mitchell, Bucknell, So., RHP, Damascus, Md./Damascus
*Mitchell went 2-0 last week in three appearances, allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits over 8.0 innings.
*He earned the win, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing one run on one hit while striking out four in the Bison’s 12-11 victory over Lehigh on Sunday.
*The sophomore right-hander tossed 3.0 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on one hit to earn the win in a 7-6 victory over Mount St. Mary’s.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Will Dobil, Lafayette, Fr., IF, Orefield, Pa./Parkland
*Dobil recorded four multi-hit games, batting .600 (9-for-15), slugging .800 and reaching base at a .647 clip last week. He drove in five runs and scored five runs to help Lafayette go 3-1 last week, including a three-game sweep over Holy Cross.
*The freshman infielder went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored in the Leopards’ 7-6 win over the Crusaders in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader.
*He combined to go 4-for-8 with four runs and one RBI in games one and three of the Holy Cross series.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Trey Ates, Army West Point, Sr., RHP, Dallas, Texas/Lake Highlands
*Ates threw a career-high 7.2 innings to earn the win in the Black Knights’ 4-3 victory over rival Navy. The senior right-hander allowed five hits and three runs, while striking out five and walking four.
 
CJ Egrie, Holy Cross, Sr., OF, Ventnor City, N.J./Phillips Academy Andover
*Egrie batted .500 (6-for-12), slugging .750 and posting a .538 on-base percentage in three losses against Lafayette. He went 1-for-4 with a home run in the Crusaders’ 7-6 loss in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader. He combined to go 5-for-8 in the other two games of the series.
 
Tristan Helmick, Lafayette, Jr., RHP, Fort Washington, Pa./La Salle College
*Helmick earned his second win of the season, allowing three runs on eight hits over 7.1 innings in Lafayette’s 9-3 victory over Holy Cross on Friday. The junior right-hander struck out eight and walked one.
 
Owen Walewander, Lehigh, Sr., C, Novato, Calif./Chatham
*Walewander batted .400 (6-for-15) and slugged 1.067 with three home runs, one double and nine RBIs in four games last week. The senior catcher went 2-for-3 with two home runs and eight RBIs in a 12-11 loss at Bucknell on Sunday. He went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 3-2 loss against the Bison on Friday.
